Home Baker Wins National Baking Competition

Sarah Main from Aberdeen creates most creative chocolate cupcake in the UK

October, 2013 Home Baking News

Sarah Main from Aberdeen has wowed a panel of expert judges to win a national baking competition with the support of her hometown Aberdeen.

Sarah’s delicious chocolate cupcake was awarded the top accolade in the Great Chocolate Bake by leading brand Dr. Oetker and chocolatier and baker Lisa Marley.

In a battle of the whisks, the stay at home mum from Cove Bay in Aberdeen was up against ten other passionate finalists located across the UK to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the home of the cupcake, New York City. Sarah’s ‘Chocolate Decadence’ cupcakes are filled with macadamia caramel and topped with a white chocolate butter cream. Each cupcake sits in beautifully hand-made chocolate wrappers and decorated with unique blue chocolate domes. Finally, each cupcake is finished with a delicate handcrafted chocolate flower.  Sarah’s exceptional chocolate creation set her entry apart, helping her to bag the top prize.

Lead by renowned chocolatier and baker Lisa Marley, the Dr. Oetker Great Chocolate Bake is inspiring the nation to push the boundaries of baking with chocolate. UK bakers were asked to submit their most creative chocolate cupcake to win the coveted prize.

Sarah said: “I’m thrilled to have won the Dr. Oetker Great Chocolate Bake and can’t wait to visit New York, sampling all of the sweet treats and visiting all the different bakeries the city has to offer!”

Gill Davies, Executive Marketing Director, Dr. Oetker says: “We were so impressed by the entries to the Dr. Oetker Great Chocolate Bake and were delighted to see, once again, how innovative Britain is with their baking. Sarah’s entry really impressed us – it ticked all the boxes of originality, creativity, innovation and, of course, being incredibly chocolatey and tasty.”
