In this recipe we have sprayed Dr. Oetker Giant Chocolate Stars with Dr. Oetker Silver Shimmer Spray to achieve a gorgeous decorative finish.

For the Cupcakes:

2 Dr. Oetker Muffin Cases (Red, White and Blue)
115 g Margarine (4 oz)
115 g Caster Sugar (4 oz)
5 ml Dr. Oetker Madagascan Vanilla Extract (1 tsp)
115 g Plain Flour (4 oz)
7.5 g Dr. Oetker Baking Powder (1 ½ tsp)
2 Eggs , Beaten

For the Decoration:

175 g Unsalted Butter (6 oz)
325 g Icing Sugar (11 oz)
5 ml Dr. Oetker Madagascan Vanilla Extract (1 tsp)
Dr. Oetker Red Extra Strong Food Colour Gel
Dr. Oetker Blue Extra Strong Food Colour Gel
tsp Edible Glitter Dust Silver, Sprinkling
Dr. Oetker Chocolate Silver Pearls
Dr .Oetker Giant Chocolate Stars

Celebration Cupcakes

Preheat the oven to 190°C (170°C Fan, Gas Mark 5). Line a cake tin with 12 Baking Cases. In a mixing bowl, beat together the margarine with the sugar until pale and creamy in texture.

Gradually whisk in the eggs and Natural Vanilla Extract, and then sift the flour and Baking Powder on top. Carefully fold the dry ingredients into the eggy mixture.

Spoon the mixture into the Baking Cases and bake on the middle shelf in the oven for 16-18 minutes until risen, lightly golden and just firm to the touch. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

For the icing, place the butter in a bowl and beat until soft. Gradually sift and beat in the icing sugar to make a smooth, creamy icing. Mix in the Natural Vanilla Extract. Divide the icing between 3 bowls and leaving one batch plain, add drops of Red and Blue Gel Food Colour to the other two batches, and stir the colours into the icings.

Transfer each coloured icing to a piping bag fitted with a 1cm (1/2inch) star nozzle and pipe a generous peaked swirl on top of each cake. Decorate with Polka Dots and Soft Silver Pearls.

Arrange the Giant Chocolate Stars on a large sheet of greaseproof paper and sprinkle the Stars with Edible Glitter Dust.  Leave the Stars for a few minutes to dry and then place one on top of each cake to serve
