It is important to us that help arrives where it is needed.
As a global company, we not only support national and international aid projects, but also the voluntary commitment of many of our employees locally.
In the event of natural disasters Dr. Oetker regularly provides immediate financial aid in the affected regions. The victims of the June floods in 2013 in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt received financial support amounting to 500,000 euro. Together with the Radeberger Group and other companies, a multi-day refreshment point was set up on the market square in Pirna for those affected. In recognition of this special voluntary commitment, the Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony awarded Richard Oetker and the Dr. Oetker aid team the Saxony Flood Aid Order 2013.
In 2015, we provided financial support for refugee aid amounting to 500,000 euro. The donation amount went equally to the two organizations SOS-Kinderdorf e. V. and German Red Cross e. V. (DRK). This enabled refugee families with children and so-called unaccompanied minor refugees to be supported in their need. The DRK also used the donation to finance accommodation tents for those seeking help, equipped the tents with camp beds and sleeping bags, and provided food.
As part of our partnership with SOS Children's Villages, Dr. Oetker also helps internationally to deal with the consequences of devastating disasters. Be it earthquakes or floods, such as in India and Pakistan, Haiti or the Philippines: Above all, it is children and their families who get into need in such situations and whom we help with financial support.
The company particularly encourages employees who do voluntary work and thus take on special social responsibility. The Hand in Hand voluntary work program supports the voluntary work of Dr. Oetker employees and retirees with product and/or monetary donations, provided that the applicants are actively involved in a time-limited project of a non-profit organization. Since the start of the program in 2011 the program has supported over 300 projects, often very different ones, with monetary and/or product donations. These include, for example, the construction of a new outdoor area for a daycare center, the organization of a training camp for a sports club or the support of a theater project in a primary school.
