Bake Even Better with Dr. Oetker

Read our handy hints and tips for some extra inspiration of how you can recreate some of these trends at home!

Nostalgia

There are loads of ways to recreate your favourite childhood flavours in your baking, why not try:

  • Use new Dr. Oetker Eton Mess, Banoffee and Lemon Meringue sprinkles on your bakes for an instant nostalgic taste
  • Topping cupcakes with popcorn pieces or your favourite sweets
  • Recreate classic dessert flavours of a Black Forest Gateaux in a cherry, chocolate and cream dessert. Or an individual Millionaires dessert with biscuit, salted caramel and chocolate layers!
  • Use classic decorations such as Dr. Oetker Hundreds and Thousands to cover your whole cake for a colourful and retro effect
  • Try making your own chocolate bars using your favourite flavours, such as biscuit, peanut butter and chocolate

Simple and Natural

Recreate the Simple and Natural trend in your own baking by:

  • Try a gluten free or vegan recipe
  • Be experimental with your decoration; slicing fruit such as figs and covering with a glaze looks both natural and beautiful or walnut halves with Dr. Oetker Gold Shimmer Spray looks dazzling!
  • Use plain or crystallised flower petals to decorate your cakes and desserts, or try our new Violet Crystal sprinkles for the delicate flavour of violet.
  • Try making oaty chocolate chip cookies instead of your normal cookie batter
  • Use vegetables in your baking to add extra texture and moisture! Learn how to substitute elements of your recipes to make them healthier on our Healthier Baking pages.

Chocolate Heaven

Recreate the premium chocolate trend at home by:

  • Decorate your cakes and cupcakes by covering them with whole chocolates, or shards of chocolate.
  • Experiment with White and Extra Dark Chocolate. Good quality high percentage cocoa chocolate will deliver an intense flavour into your desserts. Dr. Oetker Fine Cooks' Chocolate is perfect for baking, while delivering a delicious and smooth flavour.
  • Try making your own creative chocolate decorations. Learn how and watch tutorials on our Chocolate Indulgence pages.
  • Use chocolate dipped fruit as an exciting and delicious decoration on cakes, cupcakes and desserts.
  • Insert a square of Dr. Oetker Fine Cooks' Chocolate into the centre of your cupcakes before baking for a delicious surprise inside!

Herbs and Spices

Be experimental with your baking flavours at home. Try these simple ideas:

  • Add a little pepper into your ginger biscuit recipe for an exciting flavour kick
  • Add a little sea salt to your caramel recipes to really bring out the flavour
  • Why not be a little more daring and use cardamom seeds in a shortbread or apple cake recipe?
  • Sprinkle a little cinnamon on an apple pie for a delicious finish, or nutmeg into custard for an extra flavour sensation
  • Use our new Madagascan Vanilla Grinder for an additional delicious vanilla taste and aroma on your sweet treats

Around the World

Be inspired by the many different food cultures available!

  • French choux pastry is surprisingly easy to make. Make your own ├ęclairs by filling choux pastry with cream and dipping it in melted chocolate!
  • Make your own sweet Brazilian truffles called 'Brigadeiros' by combining condensed milk, butter and cocoa powder on a medium heat in a pan. Mix until it is thick enough for you to see the bottom of the pan for a few seconds when you divide the mixture in the pan, then chill for 30 minutes. Roll into small balls and cover with chocolate vermicelli or Dr. Oetker Chocolatey Strands!
